National adaptation plan in offing
The government is formulating an effective national adaptation plan to address the risks of climate change on the basis of the views of each ministry, department and the general public concerned.
The plan will be implemented with the cooperation of all related to this issue, said Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Shahab Uddin yesterday.
He was addressing the National Adaptation Plan Pre-Validation Workshop organised by the Ministry at a hotel in the capital.
Bangladesh will be able to minimise the risk of climate change by adopting and implementing medium- and long-term projects as planned.
He said implementation of the project for climate adaptation will be helped by the developed countries by increasing its finances, technology and capabilities. The environment ministry will co-operate with all other ministries in this regard.
The minister said the government is working to ensure security for the people in terms of food, water, electricity, health, etc. Industrialised nations responsible for producing greenhouse gases should come forward helping the vulnerable countries.
The ministry secretary, Mostafa Kamal, presided over the workshop which was addressed, among others, by its Deputy Minister Habibun Nahar.
