Man to walk gallows for killing son

A Joypurhat court yesterday sentenced a man to death for beating his eight-year-old son to death in 2010.

The convict, Nazrul Islam Liton of Rajnagar village in Joypurhat Sadar, was also fined Tk 50,000.

The verdict was issued by Judge Abbas Uddin of Joypurhat District Session Judge court-2, in absence of the convict.

According to prosecution, Nazrul beat up his son Rana after he refused to work at home.

Nazrul took Rana to a local doctor after he fell unconscious. The boy succumbed to his injuries at Joypurhat Sadar Hospital two days after the incident.

Following this, Rana's mother Bulbuli Ara filed a murder case with Joypurhat Police Station, accusing Nazrul.
