Man dies while trying to prevent mugging

A man died and another was injured after miscreants stabbed them when they were trying to prevent a mugging in Dhaka's Kotwali area early yesterday.

The deceased is Alamgir Hossain (40), a day labourer, and the injured Anwar Hossain (38).

The incident took place around 4am when the victims along with others were working at a scrap material shop at Balurghat.

A man rushed to them and sought help, saying muggers took his money and travel documents. As they chased the muggers and tried to catch one, miscreants stabbed the duo -- leaving them injured.

Alamgir was rushed to DMCH with stab injuries in his chest, neck and hands. He died at 1pm, said Bachchu Mia, in-charge of DMCH Police Outpost.
