Khaleda rebleeding, BNP says

BNP yesterday said that its chairperson Khaleda Zia, now undergoing treatment at Critical Care Unit of Dhaka's Evercare Hospital, is fighting for life as she is "rebleeding".

"Her (Khaleda) condition has become critical. She is bleeding again. There is no technology in the country that can treat liver cirrhosis completely," Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, secretary general of the party, said at a programme.

Addressing a human chain in front of National Press Club, organised by Shikkhok-Karmachari Oikya Jote, demanding release and overseas treatment of Khaleda, Fakhrul said the BNP chairperson did not get treatment when she was in jail for two years.

He said physicians clearly said that Khaleda should be sent abroad immediately for better treatment.

"Government from the very beginning did not take the issue of her treatment seriously. As you (people) may remember, she (Khaleda Zia) walked to the jail."

Fakhrul said when Khaleda was sent to an abandoned jail, she was denied treatment and when she was taken to BSMMU, it was late. "She was pushed to death."

Khaleda was sent to jail on February 8, 2018, in a corruption case. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, she was given temporary release on certain conditions on March 25 last year. The term of her release has been extended four times so far.
