IMF team to visit Dhaka from Oct 26 to Nov 9
A team of the International Monetary Fund is expected to visit Dhaka from October 26 to November 9 to start discussions with the Bangladesh authorities on economic and financial reforms and policies.
"The objective is to make progress towards a staff-level agreement on a prospective Extended Credit Facility/Extended Fund Facility programme and access under the newly created Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF) in the coming months," reads a statement issued by the IMF yesterday.
The RSF aims to provide affordable, long-term financing to help build resilience against climate risks in countries highly vulnerable to climate change, such as Bangladesh, it reads.
The team will be led by Rahul Anand, IMF mission chief to Bangladesh.
Earlier on October 15, Bangladesh Bank Governor Abdur Rouf Talukder told reporters in Washington DC that there had been discussions for securing $4.5 billion loan from the IMF to help the country shore up its depleting foreign currency reserves.
