Iftar at Tk 1 for underprivileged people in Patuakhali
A voluntary organisation, "Amra Kalaparabashi", has taken an initiative to provide iftar to the underprivileged in Patuakhali during the holy month of Ramadan.
Its volunteers have been going around the streets of Patuakhali's Kalapara town and distributing Iftar for just Tk 1. From the first day of Ramadan, seven items are being served in one box to 200 people every day.
One of the members of the organisation said, "Every day we visit one neighbourhood to distribute iftar items. Our one-taka iftar package includes chhola, muri , dates, piyaju, alur chop, beguni and apple. Pedestrians and low-income people have welcomed this."
Ilias Mia, a rickshaw puller in Kalapara town, said it is not possible to buy iftar from the market with his daily income. "This organisation is giving us iftar for just one taka. We are very happy with it."
Ibrahim Munshi of the town's Ferryghat area said the price of daily necessities is increasing every day. "But we are getting seven iftar items for just one taka. I am very happy with this arrangement."
Nazrul Islam, president of Amra Kalaparabasi, said, "Tk 1 is not the main issue. We charge one taka so that people don't think it's relief. Since the first of Ramadan, we have been distributing iftar by collecting donations. However, if the wealthy people of the society extend their cooperation, we can continue this throughout Ramadan."
