Hundreds celebrate Eid today in Lalmonirhat, Kurigram, Moulvibazar

Hundreds of Muslims in Lalmonirhat, Kurigram, and Moulvibazar districts are celebrating Eid-ul-Azha today (July 9, 2022) in line with Saudi Arabia. 

In Lalmonirhat, residents of seven villages under Kakina, Tushbhandar and Chandrapur unions of Kaliganj upazila are observing Eid-ul-Azha today, reports our Lalmonirhat correspondent. 

"Since 2011, thousands of residents from different villages under Kaliganj upazila have been observing Eid and other religious occasions in line with Saudi Arabia. This makes them happy, satisfied and enthusiastic," said imam Maulana Abdul Hamid of Eid congregation in Munshipara village under the upazila. 

Confirming the matter, Golam Rasul, officer-in-charge of Kaliganj Police Station, told The Daily Star that law enforcers have taken steps to ensure security to those celebrating Eid with due solemnity and fervor.

In Kurigram, residents of three villages under Bhurungamari upazila celebrated Eid today, reports our Lalmonirhat correspondent. 

Talking to The Daily Star, imam of Eid jamaat (congregation) in Chhit Paikerchhara village Maulana Moksedul Islam said although the villagers are observing Eid today in line with Saudi Arabia, residents of several other villages in the upazila also joined the Eid prayers. 

"The villagers have been celebrating Eid on the same day as that in Saudi Arabia since last 14 years," he said. 

Confirming the same, imam of Eid congregation in Paikdanga village Maulana Ashraful Islam said "Muslims should observe Islamic rituals and rites in accordance with Saudi Arabia."

"The villagers feel relieved to be able to celebrate Eid on same day as in Saudi Arabia," he added. 

OC Alamgir of Bhurungamari Police Station confirmed the matter. 

In Moulvibazar, locals along with many people who went to home for Eid holidays from around the country, offered their Eid prayer in the morning, reports our local correspondent.

The prayer was held at 7am today at Ahmed Shabista house at Circuit House area in the city.

After the prayer, the imam prayed for the flood victims, the peace and well-being of the nation.

Alhaj Abdul Mawfik Chowdhury (Pir Sahib Uzandi) said, "For a long time we have been performing this prayer in line with Saudi Arabia and Eid jamaat was held this morning. Now the animals are being sacrificed according to the rules."
