A group of DU students demand scrapping of DSA

A group of Dhaka University students yesterday demanded scrapping of the Digital Security Act and withdrawal of all cases filed under the act.
They also demanded justice for Sultana Jasmine who died in Rab custody recently. She was picked up before a case was filed against her under the DSA.
The students raised the demands at a rally, organised under the banner of general students, in front of the Raju Memorial Sculpture on the campus.
Students alleged that the government formulated the DSA for giving protection to corrupt people and suppress dissenting voices.
Leaders and activists of leftist student organisations took part in the rally.
Speaking at the rally, Meghmallar Basu, a student of the peace and conflict studies, said the previous BNP-Jamaat government founded the Rab. They thought that they would pursue their own interests by using the force and they did it until 2005, he added.
In its 2008 electoral manifesto, the then opposition Awami League said that they would disband Rab, but they turned the force into their "ultimate weapon", the student alleged.
