The workers of a garment factory blocked Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Gazipur this morning demanding unpaid wages for the month of April.

Traffic movement came to a halt around 9:00am when the workers gathered on the highway at Khan Para under Tongi West Police Station, our Gazipur correspondent reports.

As of 11:30am, traffic on the highway started to move slowly as police were negotiating with the protesters to free the highway.

Gazipur Industrial Police Additional Superintendent Mosharraf Hossain said that around 500 workers of Mifkif Apparels Ltd took position on the road.

A lower court lawyer, who wished to be anonymity, said, "I got stuck in Board Bazaar area. I can't go to court."

The district's Additional Superintendent Mosharraf is now at the scene and said, "I am working to deescalate the situation and will provide updates later."
