Following in his brother’s footsteps
Abrar Faiyaj, the younger brother of Buet student Abrar Fahad, who was murdered by Chhatra League members in 2019, has decided to enrol at the same university.
"I took the decision after discussing with my family," Faiyaj told this correspondent.
Asked whether he would stay in the university dormitory, Faiyaj said there are some formalities regarding that.
"My classes will start after four to five months; besides it is uncertain whether I will get a seat in the hall this year. But I will move to the dorm once my seat is confirmed," he added.
Faiyaj also said earlier, he got admitted to Islamic University of Technology (IUT) and is going to cancel the admission.
Faiyaj secured 450th position in the Buet entrance exam. He has been selected for the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
In the early hours of October 7 of 2019, Abrar Fahad, a sophomore student of Buet's EEE, died after he was brutally beaten by some BCL activists at Sher-e-Bangla Hall of the university.
The Buet authorities on October 11 that year banned all political activities on the campus.
On November 13 that year, the Detective Branch of police submitted the charge sheet of the case to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court of Dhaka against 25 accused.
On December 8, 2021, 20 people were sentenced to death and five others to life term imprisonment in the murder case.
