Feasibility study for Ctg metro rail begins

The feasibility study for the construction of metro rail in Chattogram began yesterday.
Road Transport and Bridges Minster Obaidul Quader virtually inaugurated the project titled "Transport Master Plan and Preliminary Feasibility Study for Urban Metro Rail Transit Construction of Chattogram Metropolitan Area (CMA)" during a ceremony held at a hotel in the port city.
The estimated cost of the feasibility-study project is around Tk 70.6 crore. It will be done with joint funding from the government and Korea International Cooperation Agency (Koica).
The duration of the study is estimated to be from January 2023 to June 2025. It is being implemented by Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority (DTCA).
Obaidul Quader said that Chattogram is the commercial capital of the country. For this, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has planned to build metro rail here after Dhaka.
The work of upgrading Dhaka-Chattogram highway to six lanes will start soon, he noted.
Chattogram-Cox's Bazar Road will also be upgraded to four lanes, he added.
Quader said the work of Bangabandhu Tunnel is almost complete. It will be open for public after the PM gives her time to inaugurate it.
Information Minister Hasan Mahmud, Chairman of Chattogram Development Authority Zahirul Alam Dubash, Director of the feasibility-study project Tony Ilho Jung, South Korean Ambassador to Bangladesh Lee Jang-keun, and Chattogram City Corporation Mayor Rezaul Karim Chowdhury also spoke at the event among others.
