Expatriate Bangladeshis have voluntarily donated blood at a blood donation programme in Mauritius on the occasions of Mujib Borsho and the Golden Jubilee of Independence of Bangladesh.
Bangladesh High Commission organised the programme in collaboration with National Blood Transfusion of Mauritius.
Expatriate Bangladeshis and members of the High Commission spontaneously took part in the programme held in the UNESCO's World Heritage Site 'Apravasi Ghat' area of capital city Port Louis on Sunday (November 7).
Bangladesh High Commissioner to Mauritius Rezina Ahmed inaugurated the programme by donating her blood.
A total of 56 bags of blood were collected during the programme. Local people highly appreciate the humanitarian initiative of the Bangladeshis.
In a brief speech on the occasion, High Commissioner Rezina Ahmed paid her deepest tribute to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and prayed for the salvation to his family members, martyred of the Liberation War, freedom fighters, injured freedom fighters and two hundred thousand of women who lost their honor.
She said blood has no substitute and it is a special gift from Bangladeshi expatriates' donors to the Mauritian citizen.
Rezina Ahmed said the High Commission would continue such philanthropic work.
