Excess done in Barguna, IGP directed to take action: Home Minister
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal today said he has directed Inspector General of Police to take action as there has been an excess in yesterday's Barguna incident.
"I saw (the incident) on Facebook. An inquiry committee has been formed. Let the investigation be completed," he said while replying to a query on which side – police or ruling party activists – have cross the limits.
The home minister was talking to reporters at his Secretariat office.
Asaduzzaman said he saw some clips on social media from one perspective. There might be several perspectives to the incident, he noted.
At least 50 activists and leaders were injured during a clash between two fractions of Bangladesh Chhatra League in Barguna yesterday, during National Mourning Day programme.
During the clash, the BCL men also attacked police who charged batons on them at Shilpakala Academy and nearby areas, police said.
In a video clip that went viral on social media, some police officials were seen engaged in altercation with local lawmaker Dhirendra Debnath Shambhu during the incident.
