DNCC Ward-6 Polls: EVM votes recounted for first time
The Election Commission for the first time has recounted the votes of an election that was held using the electronic voting machine (EVM).
EC recounted the votes cast in the election to ward-6 under Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) polls held on February 1, 2020 following an order of the electoral tribunal.
An EC statement yesterday said after the recounting on Saturday there was no change in election results.
As part of the recounting process, the sealed bags of election materials were reopened. Later, the audit card was inserted into the EVM machine to check the result and compare it with the result declared on the election day, said the statement.
Head of the committee to recount vote and Electoral Training Institute (ETI) DG Abdul Baten said they found that at least three audit cards went missing. "It can't be deliberate... may be presiding officers did something wrong."
Election Commissioner Md Alamgir said they would investigate the matter.
EC officials Taijul Islam was declared winner in the election. Salahuddin Robin, a defeated councillor candidate, filed a case on February 24, 2020, challenging the election commission's results.
The judge of Electoral Tribunal early October ordered the recount of the votes.
