Ensure transparency in humanitarian support: speakers
The country's local non-governmental organisations (NGOs) have said that global NGOs and United Nations agencies -- which are providing humanitarian support for flood-affected people in Sylhet division -- should limit their role to providing technical assistance only and hand over the responsibility to implement projects to local stakeholders.
The Sylhet wing of BDCSO, a forum of around 700 national NGOs and civil society organisations, came up with the suggestions at a press conference yesterday.
Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, national coordinator of BDCSO Process and executive director of COAST Trust, said, UN announced $5 million for flood victims, and this fund should not be distributed among UN agencies, Red Cross and big national NGOs.
