Doctor dies 2 days after being stabbed in Cumilla
After battling for life for two days, a pediatrician who was injured in an attack on Saturday in Cumilla, died of his injuries this morning in Dhaka.
Jahirul Haque died while undergoing treatment at Dhaka's United Hospital, Azizur Rahman Siddiki, director of Cumilla Medical College Hospital, told our Cumilla correspondent.
Jahirul and his wife Farhana Afrin, who live in an apartment inside Gold Silver Homes Limited in Cumilla city's Racecourse area, were distributing sweets to locals after Jahirul was elected member secretary of the apartment complex.
They were later stabbed by a resident, Salauddin Pappu, and his men on Saturday afternoon.
Both were admitted to Cumilla Medical College Hospital. Farhana, after being released from the hospital, filed a case against five persons including Salauddin Pappu with Kotwali Model Police Station on Saturday night. Jahirul was transferred to United Hospital yesterday from CMCH's ICU for better treatment, Azizur said.
Ahmed Sanjur Morshed, officer-in-charge of the police station, said, "A case was filed against five persons. Prime accused Salauddin Pappu was arrested and sent to jail through court."
AKM Abdus Selim, uncle of the deceased, said, "Jahir's dead body will be brought to Cumilla after post mortem at Dhaka Medical College Hospital."
