DNCC reclaims illegally occupied land to dig pond in Mirpur
Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) today reclaimed an acre of land in Mirpur's Kalyanpur area which had been illegally occupied for over one and half years.
The eviction drive started around 10:00am and went on for almost five hours.
The DNCC plans to implement the Kalyanpur Regulating Pond Project by excavation on the reclaimed land as a part of solution to the waterlogging problem in Mirpur, said Mohammad Mahay Alam, chief estate officer of DNCC.
This eviction drive is part of an ongoing effort to reclaim illegally occupied areas under the city corporation, he added.
The drive was led by the chief estate officer of DNCC, along with Mohammad Mahbub Hasan, regional executive officer, and Mahmudul Hasan executive magistrates of zone-4.
At least 30 illegal shops, 20 houses, and two rickshaw garages, along with various illegal structures, were removed from the land during the drive.
Locals initially tried to resist the eviction, but police intervention brought the situation under control, Mahay Alam added.
"Despite giving them notices at different times, they did not comply. We have removed all illegal establishments on this land. Drive against illegal encroachment will continue," he added.
