DMP launches project to improve traffic safety
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has launched a new project titled "Dhaka Road Traffic Safety Project (DRSP)" to strengthen its capacity to implement road safety measures to improve traffic safety in the city.
Supported by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica), the project's first Joint Coordinating Committee (JCC) meeting was held yesterday in the DMP Conference Room, said a press release today.
DMP Additional Commissioner (Traffic) Munibur Rahman, who is also the project director, chaired the meeting.
Representatives from BRTA, BRTC, Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority (DTCA), Dhaka north and south city corporations attended the meeting as JCC members, said the release.
Taro Katsurai, Jica Bangladesh senior representative, while speaking at the meeting hoped that the project would support DMP to enhance its capacity for traffic safety education and analysis, it added.
With a three-year period, this project has three outputs to achieve-- road safety education, traffic accident report /analysis and planning/implementation of traffic safety and regulation and enforcement through pilot projects.
