Dispose of the application for dues of non-resident BSMMU doctors: HC

The High Court today directed the authorities concerned to dispose of the application for paying the due monthly honorariums of non-resident doctors of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) and enhancement of the honourariums in 60 days.
The HC bench of Justice S M Kuddus Zaman and Justice AKM Rabiul Hassan passed the order after hearing a writ petition filed by Supreme Court lawyer Md Monir Uddin seeking necessary directives.
He told The Daily Star that 1,500 non-resident doctors of BSMMU have not got monthly honorarium for the last nine months. They have been waging a movement for unpaid honorariums and their enhancement.
The health ministry reportedly said it has disbursed the honorariums, but the Vice Chancellor of BSMMU said his office is yet to receive the money, the lawyer added.
Monir Uddin said he has submitted an application to the health ministry, director general of the directorate of health services, controller and auditor general and VC of BSMMU on June 25 for enhancing the honorarium of 1,500 non-resident doctors and to pay their due honorariums.
"As they did not dispose of the application, I filed the writ petition as a public interest litigation to the HC seeking necessary order," he added.
Deputy Attorney General Amit Talukder represented the state during the hearing.
