Dil Afroze Khuki hospitalised
Dil Afroze Khuki of Rajshahi has been hospitailsed.
The 62-year-old is known for her struggles for self-reliance, a dignified life and charitable activities.
She has been undergoing treatment at the neurosurgery ward of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital since Saturday.
The hospital authorities diagnosed that Khuki suffered an ischemic stroke, RMCH Director Brig Gen Shamim Yazdani told The Daily Star.
When an ischemic stroke occurs, brain cells start to die due to lack of oxygen and nutrients from blood clots in some parts of the brain, he said.
"Left side of her body is paralysed. We're trying to provide her with best treatment," he said.
Khuki has been a newspaper hawker for more than 30 years.
She used to collect newspapers from agents near her home in Seroil area and walk the wide streets and narrow alleys of the city to sell those. She used to spend her hard-earned income for the disadvantaged, especially women.
On Saturday, Khuki fell sick while selling newspapers in Laxmipur area of the city.
Mafikur Alam, a police constable, took her to the hospital at 7:30pm. At the hospital, Khuki found no bed for two days. She was shifted to a bed after Rajshahi city mayor's wife visited her on Monday evening.
While visiting Khuki at the hospital yesterday morning, this correspondent saw she was having trouble speaking or identifying someone.
