Digital Bangladesh Day: All You Need to Know
Today (December 12) is Digital Bangladesh Day.
Digital Bangladesh is one of the nation's dreams, and so special emphasis is given on the application of digital technologies to realise Vision 2021, which we commonly call Digital Bangladesh.
This Year's Theme: Advanced Technology, Inclusive Development
Since the launch of Vision 2021 in 2008, "Digital Bangladesh" has been a popular phrase while Bangladesh continues to go through a digital transformation.
The government has implemented a large number of projects relating to digital technologies and a number of these are already underway. National ICT Policy-2009 was developed with a view to achieve middle-income status of the nation by 2021 and developed status by 2041.
On the occasion, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the main programme of the day and addressed the prize-giving ceremony at Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC) in the capital.
With the theme "Advanced Technology Inclusive Development", the ICT Division organised the event.
What is Digitisation?
Digitisation is the process of converting analog information into digital information that computers can store, process, and send.
Also, we can say that information is transformed into a digital format through the process of digitisation. The output is a representation of an object, image, sound, text, or signal.
Few would disagree with the description provided in Gartner's IT Glossary: "Digitization is the process of shifting from analog to digital form."
As has been the case for many years, there are several examples of digitisation in businesses today. Digitisation is crucial in the enterprise environment for managing analog information as well as "paper-based" operations, where "paper-based" is really a metaphor for analog.
Announcement of Digital Bangladesh: Vision 2021
The announcement of "Digital Bangladesh: Vision 2021" was made by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on December 12, 2008. To commemorate the vision and present the achievements and significance of the Information Technology sector, the Cabinet Division issued a notification on that day to observe December 12 as National ICT Day.
For the first time in the country, the celebration of National ICT (Information and Communication Technology) Day took place on December 12, 2017. The day was re-named Digital Bangladesh Day in a cabinet meeting on November 26, 2018.
Digital Bangladesh Awards
The Digital Bangladesh Award Policy 2021 has been formulated by the Cabinet Division to provide inspiration and encouragement to individuals, groups and organisations for their special contribution to the ICT sector.
The division also carries out important programmes on December 12 every year.
