Demanding half bus fare: Dhaka College students end demo with 24hr ultimatum
Dhaka College students stopped blocking Mirpur Road after one and a half hours, giving a 24-hour ultimatum to the government -- for half fare for students on buses.
The students said they will go for a tougher protest on Saturday if the issue is not resolved by then.
They started the demo in front of Dhaka College around 9:30am today.
The protestors were shouting slogans and putting stickers on a number of buses that read, "Students will pay half fare on public transport".
Talking to The Daily Star, New Market Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) SM Qayyum said, "We have talked to them and asked them to leave the road. We'll also speak to bus owners about the students' demand."
Traffic became normal after the students left the road around 11am, the OC said.
