A dead dolphin and a dead turtle have washed ashore on a beach in Cox's Bazar's Ukhiya upazila.

Sayeed Mahmood Belal Haider, director general of Bangladesh Oceanographic Research Institute (BORI), said locals on Wednesday evening informed him about the two dead marine animals washed ashore in Jaliapalong Mohammad Shafir Beel area of Ukhyia.

The dead turtle is of the Olive Ridley species, and the dead dolphin is of Irrawaddy species, he told the local correspondent of The Daily Star.

Later, a team of BORI researchers went to the beach.

The dolphin and the turtle are thought to have floated to the shore by the tidal water after dying in the ocean several days ago, said researchers who visited the site.

The cause of their death could not be ascertained immediately due to decomposition of their bodies.

Sarwar Alam, divisional forest officer at the forest department in Cox's Bazar, said samples were collected from the bodies of the two marine animals before they were later buried.
