The probe committee of Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) also did not find any crack on the two ramp pillars of MA Mannan Flyover while visiting the spot this morning.

"As there are no cracks, we are going to suggest the CCC to open the flyover to traffic soon," said Md Hafizur Rahman, superintending engineer of Roads and Highway Department who is also a member of the committee.

"Those are just marks of joints, which look like cracks," he said.

"The team has visited the spot around 11:30 am today. Members of the investigation committee haven't given us any report officially till now," said CCC Executive Engineer Shahin Ul Islam.

The Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) on October 26 claimed that the ramp pillars of the flyover in Bahaddarhat had developed cracks due to heavy traffic.

But in the evening, CDA Executive Engineer (Project) Mahfuzur Rahman said, "There are no cracks in the ramp pillars. This is just a rumour."

On October 27, a team of engineers from Design Planning and Management (DPM), who designed the ramp, inspected the pillars and also found no cracks.

The next day, the CCC sent a letter to the Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) and the Roads and Highways Department (RHD) asking for representative to resolve the matter.

The construction of a one-kilometre flyover connecting Shulakbahar and Bahaddarhat began in 2010. Thirteen people were killed when a part of the under-construction flyover collapsed in Chandgaon in November 2012. The flyover was being constructed by CDA.

The construction work was then handed over to the Bangladesh Army. On October 12, 2013, the Prime Minister officially inaugurated the flyover.
