Complete all infrastructural work properly

Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh yesterday instructed all its ward councillors to take steps so that contractors complete all ongoing infrastructural development work properly.

The mayor made the comment at its board meeting held at the capital's Nagar Bhaban, with a target to give city dwellers respite from waterlogging problems.

"Rainy season is coming again. We have to do a lot to solve the waterlogging problem. Last year, we have showed a lot of success. This year is more important for us. We have already taken an initiative to clean our canals; those [officials] who are involved in this, please clean the waterbodies...," he said.

The mayor also said sometimes they find negligence in the works of contractors. For this, councillors will have to show their vigilance.

"We've already appointed contractors to clean all drains. The work will start from the last week of February and will continue till April," said the mayor.

"There is no alternative aside from cleaning drains to solve the waterlogging problem," he added.
