Child dies after falling into puddle on way home from cyclone shelter

A child died as he fell into a puddle in a village in Hatia upazila of Noakhali while returning home from a cyclone shelter this morning.

Deceased Md Manna, 12, was son of Nabi Uddin of Nijhum Dwip union in the upazila.

The incident took place in Islampur village under the union around 10:00am, Nurul Afsar Md Dinaz Uddin, chairman of Nijhum Dwip union, told our Noakhali correspondent.

He also said Manna fell into the water beside a damaged road in the inundated village and drowned.

According to local sources, nine villages of Nijhum Dwip union have been submerged due to tidal water and heavy rainfall caused by the cyclone.

Manna was returning home with his family, he added.

Hatia Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Subhashis Chakma confirmed the death.
