Chattogram port operations resume as Cyclone Hamoon weakens
All types of operations, including loading, unloading and delivery of containers and bulk cargo, resumed at Chattogram Port this morning following a one-day suspension after cyclonic storm Hamoon weakened into a deep depression.
Around 5:00am, the port's pilots started bringing back the 22 vessels which authorities sent to deeper sea from jetties yesterday afternoon as a precautionary measure. A total of 13 of the 22 vessels have already been brought back to different jetties during the morning tide between 5:00am and 9:00am, informed Md Omar Faruk, secretary of Chattogram Port Authority (CPA).
Loading and unloading of containers and bulk cargo to and from these ships started after 10:00am, he said, adding that the remaining vessels would be brought back during the next high tide in the afternoon.
Container and cargo delivery from the port yards also resumed in full swing, said the CPA official.
Over 50 other ships, which were at the outer anchorage and sent to deep sea areas yesterday, were also coming back and some of those already started unloading cargo at the outer anchorage, he added.
No damage was reported in the port's water territory, he informed.
