Bidyanondo provides Tk 31 lakh to 26 families affected by Pirganj attack
Bidyanondo Foundation, a voluntary organization, today provided Tk 31 lakh cash assistance to 26 families affected by the communal attack in Boro Karimpur Majhipara in Rangpur's Pirganj upazila.
In addition to the cash assistance, the foundation also provided the affected families with utensils worth Tk 1 lakh, on the premises of a local educational institution this afternoon, reports our Bogura correspondent.
"We raised this money through an online campaign for the affected families of Boro Karimpur. The local administration along with our volunteers identified the victims of the attack," Bidyanondo's Head of Communications Salman Khan Yasir told the Daily Star.
"Each family has been given a minimum of 1 lakh to 5 lakh cash assistance, according to the extent of loss they incurred," said Salman.
"Besides, 15 volunteers of the foundation have been working here since the night of the incident. The families will be served cooked food for the next two days," added Salman.
Pushpa Rani of Majhipara received Bidyanondo's assistance. "My house burned down. The attackers took away all the cash, jewellery and fishnets from the house. This money would help us a lot," she told The Daily Star.
The most affected during the attack in Majhipara is Debendranath's family. The voluntary organisation gave Tk 5 lakh cash to the family.
"One will stand by another in danger -- that is the mantra of this foundation," Salman said.
