Bangshal, New Market and several areas in the capital still submerged
Some areas in the capital including Bangshal, Mokimbazar, Chankharpool and New Market were submerged as of noon today, following last night's heavy rain.
Our correspondent visited the areas between 11:30am and 12:30pm and found the roads in these areas were waterlogged, hampering traffic movement.
The area inside New Market and the road in front of the market are still submerged. Movement of private cars and buses remain halted in Nilkhet, our staff correspondent reports.
However, people are moving on the road by rickshaws and rickshaw vans.
Several areas of the road from Nilkhet to Azimpur were also submerged.
As of noon, several private cars and motorcycles were seen parked on the road, presumably as the water level was too high for them to go any further.
Many people were seen waiting on the road for a long time due to a shortage of rickshaws and vans.
There were reports of overhead electricity wires falling into the water in some areas.
