Bangabandhu book corner opens at Brunei university

Bangabandhu-Bangladesh Book Corner was inaugurated at the Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) yesterday, aimed at promoting educational and cultural cooperation between the two friendly nations.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam inaugurated the corner at the UTB Library in Brunei Darussalam. The event was joined by eight ambassadors including of USA, UK, India, Vietnam, Cambodia and Iran, and members of Bangladesh community in Brunei.

Bangladesh High Commissioner to Brunei Nahida Rahman Shumona donated a collection of books to Prof Dr Dayang Hajah Zohrah Haji Sulaiman, vice chancellor of UTB.

Bangabandhu-Bangladesh Corner houses a collection of 23 books. The donated books cover diverse topics including Bangladesh's history, animals, writings, as well as memoirs and biographies of Bangabandhu.

"The High Commission's book donation is hoped to act as distinctive additions to the library's growing Foreign Mission collection as well as foster the love for reading amongst UTB community," says a statement of the university.

Addressing the event, Shahriar Alam said, "The presence of faculty from Bangladesh in UTB and the founding of Bangabandhu-Bangladesh Corner inside its library have ushered in a new era between the two friendly Asian nations, and would surely pave the way for deeper collaboration in areas of education, technology in particular."

The UTB VC said this kind of collaboration would help students become global citizens.
