Appoint 29 prison doctors immediately, HC asks govt
The High Court today asked the government to appoint doctors to 29 remaining posts at the prisons as early as possible in order to provide treatment to prisoners.
The HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman passed the order verbally while hearing a writ petition filed by Supreme Court lawyer Md JR Khan Robin on February 18 in 2019, seeking necessary order on the issue.
Earlier in the day, Shafiqul Islam, lawyer for the inspector general of prisons, submitted a report to the HC, saying that a total of 112 physicians have already been appointed for providing treatment to the prisoners at 68 prisons across the country while 29 posts are now lying vacant.
