AL leader killed in internal feud

A local Awami League leader was killed in Abaipur village under Shailakupa upazila of Jhenaidah early yesterday due to an internal feud.

The deceased, Habibur Rahman Ripon, 43, was legal affairs secretary of AL's Abaipur union unit and a member of Abaipur Union Parishad's ward-7, said OC Ripon Das of Shailakupa Police Station.

According to locals and police, Ripon had a feud with Ranju Hossain, a supporter of the current UP chairman over establishing supremacy in the area.

Both the groups held a meeting on Monday night at Shailakupa Police Station over their feud. However, the meeting was unsuccessful.

After the meeting, Ripon was returning home on a motorbike when the rival group attacked Ripon.

He died at Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital.

Additional police have been deployed to avoid further clash, the OC said.
