After 2 years, nation celebrating Eid without pandemic restrictions

Eid-ul-Fitr, the biggest religious festival of Muslims, is being celebrated today (May 3, 2022) across the country. This is the first Eid celebration without Covid-19 pandemic related restrictions.

Eid jamaat (congregations) were held under public and private initiatives across the country, including in Dhaka.

The country's main Eid jamaat in Dhaka was held at the National Eidgah around 8:30 am. Separate arrangements were made for women at the National Eidgah.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, no Eid jamaat were held at the National Eidgah, adjacent to the High Court, in the last two years.

A four-tier security arrangement has been put in place in and around the National Eidgah today. Judges, Cabinet members and  diplomats representing Muslim countries offered Eid prayers at the National Eidgah.

President M Abdul Hamid offered Eid prayers, along with his family members and some officials, at Durbar Hall of Bangabhaban in Dhaka, reports BSS.

The Eid jamaat was held at 9:30 am. Pesh Imam of Bangabhaban Jame Mosque Mufti Maulana Saiful Kabir conducted the Eid prayers, BSS added.

Besides, Eid jamaat started at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque at 7 am. Five Eid jamaat were scheduled to be held there till 11:00 am in a span of one hour.
