Abdus Salam dies after made DG of Hathazari madrasa
Abdus Salam Chatgami, chief mufti of Hathazari Darul Ulum Moinul Islam Madrasa, died yesterday after falling ill in a meeting which declared him director general (muhtamim) of the madrasa.
Eighty-year-old Salam was pronounced dead by doctors after being taken to Hathazari Upazila Health Complex around noon, said Ashraf Ali Nizampuri, teacher of the madrasa.
The meeting was called to pick persons for some posts, including director general, of the madrasa governing body.
"He had been suffering from old age complications for long. He passed away after being declared director general [muhtamim] in the meeting," he said.
Salam had been leading a three-member committee formed soon after the death of Ahmed Shafi last year to run the activities of Hathazari Madrasa.
Madrasha sources said the meeting was postponed after Salam's death.
The deceased was supposed to be buried at the madrasa graveyard after a namaj-e-janaza at 11:00pm yesterday, added the sources.
