552 more Rohingyas reach Bhasan Char from Cox’s Bazar

The eighth batch of 552 Rohingyas reached Bhasan Char from various Rohingya camps of Teknaf and Ukhia -- under Cox's Bazar -- this afternoon under the supervision of the Bangladesh Navy.

Two Navy ships carrying 552 Rohingyas --of 156 families -- and another Navy ship carrying their valuables reached Bhasan Char, a remote island in Hatiya under Noakhali, said Md Rafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Bhasan Char Police Station.

With them, a total of 18,957 Rohingyas have been relocated to the island from Cox's Bazar, the OC told our Noakhali correspondent.

They were handed over to cluster no. 56 and 66 of the Bhasan Char camp after completing their health check-up, added the OC.

The 552 Rohingyas, including women and children, started their journey from Cox's Bazar's Teknaf and Ukhia on the navy ships yesterday afternoon.
