4-yr-old Roja fighting for life

Four-year-old Roja Moni has been fighting for her life with 30 percent burns for last three days after sustaining the injuries in a massive fire at a chemical warehouse and adjacent houses in Keraniganj on August 15.
A total of 15 people sustained burn injuries in the incident that broke out in Gadarbagh area.
Roja is now being treated at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka. Her condition is critical, said Dr Samanta Lal Sen, coordinator of the institute.
Her father Sohag Hossain, 25, her mother Mina Begum, 22, her one-and-a-half-year-old sister Tayeba Akhter, her aunt Jesmin Akhter, 35, and her eighth-grader cousin Isha Akhter, all were burnt to death in the fire.
The girl's grandparents are among the 15 others injured in the incident.
Dr Samanta Lal said the institute is determined to do everything possible to keep the girl alive by providing her with the best treatment.
"At least three bags of blood were given to the child. We are doing everything necessary... We do not want to lose hope," he said.
Roja's grandfather Farhad Hossain Jony said the girl now remains as the only surviving member of the family after the incident.
Roja's grandmother (maternal) Maksuda Begum has become sick herself after losing the rest of the family members, he said.
Despite that, Maksuda refused to leave the child alone in the hospital, he added.
"When the fire erupted, her father, Sohag, rescued Roja first. However, she already sustained 30 percent burns by that time. After placing her on one of the neighbour's lap, Sohag went back into the house to rescue his wife, daughter, and other family members," Farhad recalled.
Sohag, however, could not find anyone inside and suffered 75 percent burns while trying to save them. Both Sohag and Roja were rushed to the burn institute, where he succumbed to his injuries, he also said.
"Sohag enquired about Roja's condition until his last breath."
Meanwhile, a case was filed against Tutul Haji, owner of the chemical warehouse where the fire erupted, on charges of negligence and damaging properties, said Mamunur Rashid, officer-in-charge of Keraniganj Model Police Station.
One Md Harun, whose house was completely gutted in the fire, filed the case.
Accused Tutul Haji is on the run, the OC also said.
Police requested family of the deceased to file a case in this connection, but they have refused to do so, he added.
