3 sent to jail over rape of RMG worker

A court in Gazipur yesterday sent three youths to jail over the gang rape of a female RMG worker.

The arrestees are -- Mosadik Hossain Apu, 32, of Gazipur's Gazaripara area; Riday, 20, of Mymensingh's Phulpur upazila; and Nayeem Islam, 18, of Mymensingh's Trishal upazila.

Quoting the victim, police said she was returning home from work in Gazirpur's Rajendrapur area on Saturday morning.

One of the accused intercepted her, took her inside the forest and raped her at knife-point. Later, he called two other accused over the phone and gang-raped the victim.

They left the area threatening her with murder if she disclosed the matter.

The victim filed a case with Sadar Police Station in Gazipur on Monday, said Ziaul Islam, OC of the station.

Police arrested the accused on Monday night and produced them before the court yesterday, which sent them to prison, said the OC.

Meanwhile, in Feni, a Jubo League leader was arrested on Monday night for raping a home-maker on multiple occasions throughout the last four years in Daganbhuiyan upazila.

The accused is Delwar Hossain, 30, general secretary of ward-5 unit Jubo League under Daganbhuiyan's Matubhuiyan union.

Police said the victim's husband is an expatriate worker. Delwar first raped her around four years ago and recorded the incident on camera.

He raped her multiple times by blackmailing her with the recording and threatening to kill her family members, said police, quoting the victim.

Later on Monday evening, the victim filed a case against Delwar, who was arrested on the same night, said Md Hasan Imam, OC of Daganbhuiyan Police Station.
