2 siblings die of ‘food poisoning’ in Gazipur
Two children died and another child fell sick from "food poisoning" after having cakes and patties in Gazipur city today.
The deceased were identified as Asha Moni (6) and her one and a half-year-old sister Alifa Akhter, daughters of Ashraful Islam of the city's Salna area, reports our Gazipur correspondent.
However, six-month-old Siam, son of Hira Mia, was undergoing treatment at Shaheed Tazuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital, said Ziaul Islam, officer-in-charge of Gazipur Sadar Police Station.
The two bodies were sent to the hospital morgue for autopsy, the police official said.
Rafiqul Islam, a resident doctor of the hospital, said the two children were "brought dead" to the hospital. They might have died due to food poisoning, the doctor said.
However, the reason behind their deaths cannot be confirmed without an autopsy, he said adding that Siam is out of danger.
Deceased's father Ashraful Islam told reporters that he bought some patties and cakes from a shop in Salna's Epsa gate area in the morning and ate those along with the three children.
Soon after eating the snacks, the three children fell sick, he said.
They were taken to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital where doctors declared Asha and Alifa dead.
OC Ziaul further said they are looking into the matter.
