Metro Rail: 2 held for stealing project materials
Rab arrested two members of an "organised theft gang" on Monday on charges of stealing materials of Metro Rail project in Dhaka.
The elite force also recovered materials worth around Tk 5 lakh, a pickup, and an auto-rickshaw during the raid at Pallabi, said Joyita Shilpi, deputy director of Rab-4, yesterday.
The arrestees are Ashique (19) and Harun (40).
Rab members came to know about the gang while investigating a case filed with Turag Police Station following the death of one Nazmul (18), who turned out to be a member of the gang, Joyita told The Daily Star.
Nazmul died from electrocution on September 6 while cutting wire at the project with fellow gang members.
Meanwhile, detectives claimed to have arrested seven theft gang members on Monday -- who used to break into office buildings in Dhaka and loot cash and valuables -- from the capital's Demra and Cumilla's Kandirpar.
Mahbub Alam, joint commissioner (DB South) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, confirmed it yesterday during a press briefing at DMP media centre.
The arrestees are Jamal Uddin, Shafiq Bhuiyan alias Bacha, Shafiq's wife Mukta Akter, Jasim Uddin, Kader Kibria alias Babu, Shakil and Al Amin.
