Over 200 illegal structures evicted from Bangshi River bank
The Dhaka district administration has launched a drive to evict at least 300 illegal structures built 30 to 40 years ago on the banks of the Bangshi River in Savar.
More than 200 illegal structures have been evicted till this evening (October 29, 2022) in a two-day eviction drive that began on yesterday, reports our Savar correspondent reports quoting Savar Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Executive Magistrate Md Mazharul Islam.
The drive led by the UNO will continue till tomorrow.
The drive was assisted by officials of Water Development Board, Palli Bidyut Samity, Savar Municipality and local police.
"From what we said in 2014 that around two to three acres of land on the Bangshi River has been illegally encroached, over time, we now estimate it to be six to seven acres, where there are at least 300 structures," he said.
Although the drive was planned to be carried out for two days, the entire illegal structures have not been evicted, so the drive will continue tomorrow as well, he added.
