Looking for legal scope to allow Khaleda's treatment abroad: Law minister

Law Minister Anisul Huq today said the government is looking for legal scope to allow BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's medical treatment abroad.

"Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has considered the issues of Khaleda Zia's treatment from a humanitarian aspect. Two applications for allowing Khaleda Zia to go abroad have been rejected earlier. Now, we are examinig whether there is any scope in this regard. Decision would be taken examining all the aspects so that law is not violated," he said.

Anisul Huq said this while responding to queries from reporters after attending, as chief guest, a meeting on the occasion of inauguration of 25th judicial administration training course of district and sessions judges and metropolitan sessions judges at the Judicial Administration Training Institute (JATI) in Dhaka.

Earlier in the day, the law minister told the meeting that the government has formulated the Digital Security Act in order to prevent cybercrimes, not to stop the freedom of expression or freedom of press.

Eight cyber tribunals have been established in eight divisions of the country for trying cybercrimes related cases, the law minister said, adding that the district judges will have to supervise the functions of the cyber tribunals.

JATI Director General Justice Nazmun Ara Sultana presided over the meeting where Law Secretary Md Golam Sarwar also spoke.
