Keep an eye to waz-mehfil: JS body
The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Public Administration has suggested that the local administration be asked to caution waz-mehfil (religious congregation) organisers so that clerics refrain from personal attacks and political hate speeches.
"In the waz-mehfil [congregations], speeches are made attacking people personally. Political hate speeches were also heard in these programmes," HN Ashequr Rahman, president of the parliamentary standing committee told The Daily Star last night.
Mentioning that the standing committee made the suggestion to create awareness among people, he said, DCs and UNOs could ask the organisers to refrain from making hate speeches and personal attacks while issuing permission for such programmes.
A good number of religious congregations are held across the country mostly during the winter every year.
