DNCC mayor urges city dwellers to ensure their homes, yards are free of Aedes larvae
To combat the growing risk of infections, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayor Md Atiqul Islam has urged city dwellers to clean their home and yards to control Aedes larvae, a carrier of both dengue and chikunguniya.
"We have to control Aedes mosquitoes and subsequently the spread of dengue and chikunguniya by conducting cleaning activities at our homes on a regular basis," said the DNCC mayor while addressing an awareness campaign and combing operation as chief guest at Moghbazar crossing.
The mayor urged everyone to be aware and ensure that water does not remain stagnant for more than three days in any kind of pots, coconut-shells, flower pots, rooftop or any other places.
DNCC is conducting a 10-day combing operation to kill Aedes mosquito larvae in all 54 wards. They are also conducting an awareness campaign since July 27 which will continue till August 7.
He said their 'Sobar Dhaka' app and 333 numbers for emergency service are active and they are also running hotline numbers 0960222233 and 09602222334.
Mobile courts of Dhaka North City Corporation fined Tk 4.42 lakh in 36 cases for finding Aedes mosquito larvae at different houses, under-construction buildings and some other places.
In another drive, mobile courts of Dhaka South City Corporation fined Tk 1.18 lakh to owners of 15 under-construction buildings for the same reason.
