Buses plying without route permits to be seized from Dec 1: Taposh
Expressing firm determination to bring order in public transport at any cost, Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh today said buses plying the city roads without route permits will be seized from December 1.
"Not only fines but wherever we'll find illegal buses without route permits, but we'll seize them and destroy them so that these vehicles can't ply the roads again," he told journalists after holding the 19th meeting of the Bus Route Rationalisation Committee at the Nagar Bhaban's Buriganga Hall in the Old Dhaka today.
Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Md Atiqul Islam, Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) Chairman Nur Mohammad Mazumder, Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) Chairman Md Tazul Islam, Rajdhani Unnayan Kartipakkha (Rajuk) Chairman ABM Amin were present in the meeting, aomong others.
Noting that drives will be conducted against the identified 1,847 buses without route permits from December 1, Taposh said, "There is a disorder in the public transport service in the city. That's why we will be tougher."
