Voting for Sirajganj-6 by-election begins
Voting has started in the by-election of Sirajganj-6 (Shahjadpur) constituency this morning. People are casting votes using electronic voting machine (EVM).
Three candidates are contesting in the by-election. They are: AL nominated candidate Merina Jahan, Jatiya Party nominated candidate Muktar Hossain, and independent candidate Humayun Kabir.
A total of 4,20,780 voters will cast their votes at 160 centres, reports our Pabna correspondent quoting district election office.
District Election Officer, Md Shohidul Islam, said, "There are not enough voters in the vote centres this morning due to the strong winds, but we expect to see an increase in turnout as the day progresses."
To ensure security at the voting centres, Police, Rab, and BGB members have been deployed, he said.
The voting began at 8am and will continue till 4pm without any break.
The seat fell vacant after AL lawmaker Hasibur Rahman Shapon passed away on September 2 while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Turkey.
