Transgender chairman candidate Ritu wants to serve people of Trilochanpur

Ritu (43), a union parishad chairman candidate, is reaching out to voters and has become a topic of conversation in Jhenaidah.
Ritu is contesting in the upcoming UP election -- scheduled for November 28 -- for Trilochanpur under Kaliganj upazila. She is contesting with the pineapple symbol, reports our local correspondent.
Nazrul Islam Sana, the Awami League backed candidate, is running for the post as well.
Ritu stays in Dhaka's Demra area, but frequently comes to Jhenaidah to maintain a strong relationship with the people of Trilochanpur.
With hard-earned money, Ritu has commissioned two mosques in ancestral village Daudpur and provides financial assistance to local temples and the poor.
Ritu comes from a family of AL supporters, according to Shakil and Sagar Hossain of Baliadanga village. For contributions and work for the locals, Ritu has already become a favourite.
According to Kaliganj upazila Election Officer, Alamgir Hossain, transgender individuals can participate in UP election.
Pinki Khatun, another transgender individual, had previously been elected vice chairman of Kotchandpur upazila in Jhenaidah.
