No one has the right to ridicule Hero Alom: TIB
No one, including leaders of ruling Awami League and opposition BNP, has the right to ridicule Ashraful Hossain Alam, alias Hero Alom, who was a candidate in the recently held by-elections, said Transparency International Bangladesh.
Iftekharuzzaman, executive director of TIB, in a statement today expressed his frustration at recent comments made by top leaders of Awami League and BNP regarding Hero Alom.
Alom took part in by-polls to Bogura-4 and Bogura-6 held on February 1 as an independent candidate. Losing in both seats, he alleged that the election results were changed during the vote counting.
Iftekharuzzaman in the statement mentioned AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader's comment that "Hero Alom is now zero".
The TIB chief also referred to BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir's remark that the Awami League was so helpless that they needed to use state machinery to win election against Alom.
In both cases, the two leaders attacked each other and demeaned Alom, Iftekharuzzaman said. "Such behaviour of two senior politicians towards an ordinary citizen of the country establishes the vulgarity of the political culture of Bangladesh in public."
