Last phase of election underway in 8 union parishads
The last phase of union parishad (UP) election is underway peacefully in eight unions across the country this morning.
The voting began at 8am and will continue uninterrupted till 4pm.
It is the last polls under the outgoing Election Commission led by Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda.
In Noakhali, the election is taking place in presence of a large number of voters in Char Jabbar and Char Jubli unions of Noakhali's Subarnachar upazila.
According to the upazila election office, 15 candidates are running for chairman post, 53 for general members, and 24 for female members of reserved seat, reports our local correspondent.
A total of 71,619 voters are registered in the two unions.
The district's Superintendent of Police (SP), Shahidul Islam PPM, said that elections are going on amid utmost security.
A total of 1,161 law enforcement officers have been deployed, including 505 police officers, 559 Ansars, 37 Rab, and 60 BGB members, the SP said, adding that police on election duty are wearing body cameras.
