Political parties can suggest names for CEC, ECs: Cabinet secretary
After the meeting of the six-member search committee, Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam today said political parties can suggest names for the chief election commissioner and other election commissioners and a circular in this regard will be issued tonight.
The committee will hold talks with the civil society members and media personalities and elections experts on Saturday and Sunday, the cabinet secretary told reporters at a briefing.
In the meeting, it was decided to hold the next meeting on Tuesday at 4:30 pm at the same venue.
The meeting of the search committee, formed by President Abdul Hamid for the formation of the next Election Commission, started at the Supreme Court's judges lounge at 4:30 pm and continued till 6:20 pm, reports our staff correspondent.

It was the first meeting of the search committee, led by Justice Obaidul Hassan.
All members of the search committee were present at the meeting.
The president has formed the search committee, led by Justice Obaidul Hassan, in line with the new law on forming the Election Commission.
The other members are Justice SM Kuddus Zaman, a High Court judge; Comptroller and Auditor General Mohammad Muslim Chowdhury; Public Service Commission Chairman Md Sohorab Hossain; former election commissioner Sohul Hussain; and psychiatrist and writer Anwara Syed Haq, according to a gazette issued yesterday.
The search committee has six working days to recommend names to the president for the appointments of the chief election commissioner and other commissioners as the tenure of the current EC, headed by CEC KM Nurul Huda, expires on February 14.
