Brahmanbaria by-polls: 1,100 police will be on duty

A total of 1,100 police personnel along with members of Rab and BGB will be on the ground to maintain law and order during tomorrow's by-election to the Brahmanbaria-2 constituency.
Md Zillur Rahman, the assistant returning officer and also the district election official, told our Brahmanbaria correspondent about the security measures last night.
The Brahmanbaria-2 constituency fell vacant due to the resignation of now expelled BNP leader Abdus Sattar Bhuiyan on December 10 last year, along with six other BNP lawmakers.
A total of 1,100 police personnel, 10 teams of Rab, four platoons of BGB, and 1,585 Ansar members will be deployed at 132 polling stations, including 84 in Sarail upazila and 48 in Ashuganj upazila.
A team of 17 -- 12 Ansar members, two village police, and three police personnel -- will be positioned at each centre.
Besides, a total of 17 executive magistrates will conduct mobile courts in 17 unions of the two upazilas, the assistant returning officer said. Two judicial magistrates will also be on duty in the upazilas, he added.
Meanwhile, EVM equipment was scheduled to be distributed from Sarail upazila election officer's office and Ashuganj upazila executive officer's office from 9:00am today.
